Three coyotes were spotted in Kilcona Park Friday evening.

Winnipeg police said a man and his two dogs were in the park around 9:30 p.m., when three large coyotes appeared.

Police said the coyotes began to circle the man and his dogs.

The man and his dogs were able to reach safety in his vehicle, police said, but the coyotes didn’t let up.

Police said they followed the vehicle out of the dog park.

Manitoba Conservation has been made aware of the incident.

The incident comes after a number of recent coyote sightings in Kilcona Park.

Less than a month ago, another man, reported that he and his dogs were approached by a pack of coyotes, in the heart of the park, overlooking Lagimodiere Boulevard.

Some people at the dog park said they want to see a catch and release system.

The president of Kilcona Dog Park Club, Donna Henry, said the park is aware of the recent sightings.

She said Manitoba Conservation has been notified, be she doesn’t like the idea of a trap system.

"If conservation officers put up a live trap, to trap one of the coyotes, what are they probably going to catch? A frightened dog, an owner who is upset,” said Henry.

Police are warning dog owners to use extra caution at the park, especially at night.

“Coyotes are known to be most active during sunrise and sunset hours. Park users are advised to keep dogs on a leash, and pick up and carry small dogs if confronted,” police said in a release.

Anyone who encounters aggressive wildlife in the city is asked to contact Winnipeg police.
