A gas leak on Aberdeen Avenue forced people out of their homes early Friday morning.

The incident happened around 2 a.m. Friday, causing the residents of 16 homes to stand outside.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service says the people were allowed to go back home within the hour, after a Manitoba Hydro crew arrived and shut off the gas.

Fire officials say the cause of the leak is suspicious and is under investigation.

The leak was caused by damage to a meter on the outside of a home in the 400 block of Aberdeen.

A spokesman for Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service says firefighters noticed tire tracks leading away from the damaged meter.
