As anchor of CTV Winnipeg’s 11:30 p.m. weekday newscast, Andrea Slobodian stays up late to bring Manitobans their news, sports and weather.
Growing up, Andrea dreamed of working for CTV News (back when it was called CKY). Her career roots were planted at a young age, when her mother used to “shush” her to be quiet her every time a news or weather report came on television or radio.
Inspired by female sports broadcasters in the early 1990s and a love of writing in high school at Collège Jeanne-Sauvé, she went on to graduate from Red River College’s Creative Communications program with a journalism diploma in 2002 and obtain a B.A. in Communications from the University of Winnipeg.
For more than a decade, she’s held a variety of roles in television, radio and newspaper newsrooms across Western Canada, primarily in Winnipeg and Calgary.
Andrea occasionally fills in as News Anchor and Weather Anchor on CTV News at 6 and files a monthly feature segment called Pet Ed, with tips from the Winnipeg Humane Society.
She is proud of her roots and involved with several events in Manitoba’s Ukrainian community.
