Accused mail bomber Guido Amsel is looking for a new lawyer after Martin Glazer withdrew as his counsel.
Glazer told Provincial Court Judge Sid Lerner he was notified on Aug. 18 that Amsel was firing him as his lawyer.
Glazer said had he continued, the trial was going to commence with motions on Sept. 14, with the trial itself starting on Oct. 26. It was expected to last about 45 days.
"I have discharged Martin Glazer because I just lost the trust and the confidence in his work,” Amsel told the court.
Amsel said he has not retained new counsel as of yet.
"I have someone in mind, but it's a little too early to mention his name. Hopefully by the weekend I have someone. He hasn't agreed fully to it."
The judge told Amsel that this may result in a delay of his trial, which Amsel said he understood.
Amsel is charged with three counts of attempted murder and bomb making.
In July 2015, a mail bomb detonated and seriously injured a Winnipeg lawyer.
Two other bombs were also discovered and were safely detonated by a bomb disposal unit. No one was hurt in those incidents.
Amsel was also charged with attempted murder in April in connection with a 2013 explosion at a home in St. Clements which Amsel used to live in with his ex-wife.
None of the allegations have been proven in court.
