Advance voting for Winnipeg’s 2014 civic election started on Monday.

Eligible voters will get to cast their vote through to mid-October.

Polling stations will be set up during certain times at city hall and in malls, universities and other community locations, during set hours and dates. Voters can also mail their ballot in.

A complete list of advance voting locations and times is listed on the City of Winnipeg's site.

The Winnipeg civic election will be held Oct. 22.

Winnipeggers have yet to get voter cards in the mail.

Political scientist Christopher Leo said that means some residents may not know about the advanced polls.

"We have received brochures from candidates and even offers to put up lawn signs and all kinds of things like that, so the candidates are busy but we haven't had anything from the city,” said Leo.

Senior election official Marc Lemoine said the city will send out those voter cards this week and people should get them by next Tuesday.

"What we want to do is balance how early we send them out because people lose them and everything else. (We) want to send them out somewhat close to Oct. 22, but send them out early enough so that people have the most opportunity to get to the most advanced polls,” he said.

In 2010, new technology allowed the city hold advanced polls across the community.

A record-breaking 30,000 Winnipeggers showed up to cast a ballot before election day, accounting for about 15 per cent of the total vote.
