Winnipeg has named a park this weekend in honour of an immigrant who one city councillor calls "an example of the Canadian Dream."

Apee Panchhi lost his father at the age of 15 and immigrated to Canada in 1977.

He helped establish the Guru Nanak Darbar temple in Winnipeg, supported a mission hospital in his hometown in India and volunteers and donates to the Concordia Hospital Foundation.

The park is located along a multi-use path and has a new play structure, swing set, benches and mini soccer field.

The park is on El Tassi Drive and Fiorentino Street in Transcona.
