Last week, Maclean’s magazine called Winnipeg the most racist city in Canada.

And so far the reaction hasn't died down.

"It's not just with one culture. It's with everybody," said Helen Wesley.

Even visitors to Winnipeg are talking about it.

"From what I hear…it's on everybody's mind. It sounds like there's going to be some changes coming, which I think is always positive," said Ola Rydz.

Exactly what Jenna Wirch said she was hoping for when she was quoted in the article.

But she said she had no idea the article would be so controversial and says she's OK with that, as long as people are talking about ways to combat racism.

"It's really awesome to see them in my hand and be able to say I'm part of the change and this is how I'm going to change the world," said Wirch.

To continue the conversation among her peers, she was out early Tuesday morning, buying up all the copies she could find.

And it seems others are thinking the same thing.

David Lawrence of McNally Robinson at Grant Park Mall said he had to turn people away all day Tuesday and was sold out before they even arrived at the store in the morning.

"We attempted to phone our supplier to get more stock that we could offer to people but unfortunately every other outlet in Winnipeg was busy doing the same thing," said Lawrence.

Many other shops that sell magazines in the city also said they were sold out of the publications in Winnipeg.
