Evoking the emotions of all Canadians is one of the goals Vancouver-based artist Dana Claxton had in mind in creating the images appearing on billboards across the country, including four in Winnipeg on Isabel Street.

One of the art pieces includes an image of a TV series icon with the words "Tonto pray for you" in bold print beside the picture.

Claxton said she hopes people who see her work will think about indigenous people and question their own stereotypes of aboriginal people, people who Claxton says are "beautiful, vibrant, dynamic, oppressed."

The artist said her work is meant to be humorous, respectful and a way to remind non-First Nations to love Canada's original people.

Claxton's art is part of a national series featured on 23 billboards in seven cities across Canada.
