Winnipeg Tourism expects a big economic boost from Grey Cup fans.

A preliminary study by the CFL and Economic Development Winnipeg estimates that 28,000 people will descend on the city and inject 85.5 million into the economy.

Chantal Sturk-Nadeau, Winnipeg Tourism's senior vice president said a lot has changed since Winnipeg last hosted the Grey Cup in 2006.

Sturk-Nadeau said Grey Cup events happen over a week instead of a weekend, and there are more hotel rooms available.

She said parties and galas are spread out across the city, with different organizations hosting many events.

The Manitoba Hotel Association said that rooms are mostly full, but there are still rooms available.

President and CEO Jim Baker expects those spots to fill up.

Baker thinks fans will gravitate towards hotels near the Bombers stadium.

He said some hotel rates have gone up to reflect the increased demand.

The Grey Cup arrives in Winnipeg on Wednesday and festivities begin on Thursday.
