A loose moose may have grabbed the spotlight in the lead-up to Saturday’s Banjo Bowl showdown, but it was the Winnipeg Blue Bombers who shined on the field in the prairie rivalry game versus the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The Blue Bombers got the revenge they were looking for following a loss in the Labour Day Classic in Regina, Sask.

Winnipeg scored a 48-28 win on home turf in the annual rematch game held at Investors Group Field.

Blue Bombers quarterback Matt Nichols threw three touchdowns and completed 24 of 37 pass attempts on the day for 282 yards in the air.

The Bomber defence and special teams also contributed offensively, with Maurice Leggett returning a punt for a 97 yard touchdown.

Leggett also put up a pick six, intercepting a Kevin Glenn pass in the third quarter and running it back for a 54 yard touchdown.

Winnipeg product and former Manitoba Bison Kienan LaFrance scored a touchdown in his Roughriders debut.

Receiver Clarence Denmark scored two touchdowns for the Bombers, while Ryan Lankford added one major.

Dan Lefevour’s quarterback sneak at the end of the second quarter lifted Winnipeg to a 29-20 lead heading into halftime.

With the win, the Blue Bombers record improves to 8 wins and 3 losses while Saskatchewan falls to 5 wins and 5 losses.

The Blue Bombers next game goes Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. when they host the defending Grey Cup champion Ottawa Redblacks at Investors Group Field.
