A lobbyist registry is in the works at Winnipeg City Hall.

Mayor Brian Bowman tabled a motion at his Executive Policy Committee Wednesday to establish the list.

“Lobbyist registries are an effective tool that allows members of the public to clearly see who is attempting to influence government decision makers and the reasons behind their efforts,” Bowman said.

The motion by the mayor comes days after he accused councillor Russ Wyatt of partnering with lobbyists in his criticism of the roads budget.

Council has previously voted to hire an Integrity Commissioner to oversee the registry.

It’s not the only move being made this week at city hall aimed at providing more transparency to taxpayers.

Later this week, EPC will consider a $338,000 price tag to establish an Independent Fairness Commissioner to review real estate transactions. This stems from the controversial fire hall land swap deal and other real estate scandals from the previous administration.
