A 13-year-old Winnipeg boy has won the top prize for the largest pumpkin at the Roland Pumpkin Fair.

According to the Lukes family, Milan Lukes’ massive pumpkin came in weighting 1368 lbs.

Lukes has been growing huge pumpkins for several years in his St. Norbert backyard, spending countless hours caring for the pumpkins from the spring to the fall.

He entered his pumpkins in previous competitions hoping to win but this year was first time he clinched the top spot.

“It feels really good because I went from 21st place, to 6th place, to 1st place,” said Lukes.

Lukes also took home the second prize for the second largest pumpkin at the fair. It weighed 1283 lbs.

“Over the years I learned new techniques, and I’ve been dedicating more time into everything,” he said.

Lukes said the pumpkin that won first place in was so wide, organizers insisted he sit on the pumpkin and lift the trophy.

“I look so small so the pumpkin looks extra big,” said Lukes.

Lukes said the win is extra special because the fair celebrated it’s 25th year anniversary Saturday.

Lukes said just because he won it doesn’t mean he’s giving up on his pumpkin hobby.

He said he now plans to go after the provincial record and grow a pumpkin heavier than 1379 lbs.

“It’s on my bucket list,” he said.
