Victims of brain injuries and their families walked in support of the Manitoba Brain Injury Association, Sunday.

For the last 12 years, the association has organized the walk to raise awareness about what it’s like living with a brain injury.

The association says brain injuries can affect all aspects of a person’s life, and people often don’t recognize the symptoms because there is often no visible physical signs.

Executive director David Sullivan can’t say whether or not the number of brain injuries each year has changed.

“It’s hard to really say an accurate number, because we haven’t done a very good job of tracking that at all,” he said.

Sullivan said there are many ways people can suffer a brain injury. He advises people to take precautions, like wearing safety helmets when doing activities like biking or skating.
