Winnipeg burn survivor Maria Cristina Laureano has created a website to share her story and the stories of others across the country.

Her website, called After the Cocoon, showcases other survivors like her through words and photographs.

Laureano was scalded by a pot of boiling water when she was nine months old, causing second- and third-degree burns on her upper body.

She created the site as part of her graduation project for the Creative Communications program at Red River College.

Laureano said that after moving to Canada from the Philippines, she felt a need to connect with other burn survivors.

"I'm super happy there's been a lot of people that have given me positive feedback. I feel like this is really rewarding,” she said.
