Labour activists and their supporters in Winnipeg gathered for a candlelight vigil as part of the National Day of Mourning for workers killed or injured on the job.

April 28 is designated by Parliament as a national day to reflect on the need for safe and healthy workplaces.

Mourners gathered in the Main Floor Gallery at Manitoba Hydro Place (360 Portage Ave.) at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon

Several events led up to the National Day of Mourning. On Friday, a ceremony was held at City Hall to pay tribute to workers killed or injured on the job. This was followed by the Day of Mourning Leader’s walk, a youth-led march from Union Centre to the Legislature organized by SAFE Workers of Tomorrow.
