OTTAWA -- The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning (CFIA) the public not to consume certain Butcher's Choice Beef Burgers because they may be contaminated with E. coli bacteria.

The affected product -- Butcher's Choice Hickory Barbecue Beef Burgers and Butcher's Choice Garlic Peppercorn Beef Burgers -- were sold in 1.13 kilogram packages (UPC codes 0 60383 89364 4 and 0 60383 89363 7).

Loblaw Companies Ltd. is recalling the product as a precautionary measure.

There have been no reports of illnesses associated with the burgers.

The CFIA says it is testing additional products collected from across the country and is conducting an investigation at the producing facility that could lead to the recall being expanded.

Food contaminated with E. coli can cause serious and even life-threatening illnesses.
