For child burn survivors, camp is a way to connect to others with a similar story.

The 29th annual Firefighters Burn Camp kicked off Monday, with children from Manitoba, Ontario and Nunavut gathering to embark on several days’ adventure at Moose Lake, Manitoba.

Before boarding the bus, kids were treated to a BBQ put on by firefighters at Winnipeg Fire Department Station #1. Campers tried out the aerial ladder and other games, while parents met counsellors.

The camp, named Phoenix, is staffed by Firefighters, Occupational Therapists, Nurses and a number of volunteers.

Camp Phoenix is one of the longest running burn camps in North America, and is completely funded by the Firefighters Burn Fund Inc.
