The City of Winnipeg will be adding more outreach workers to help combat homelessness in the downtown core.

Mayor Brian Bowman announced $150,000 to double the amount of Community Homeless Assistance Team members from four to eight.

The outreach members help homeless people get housing, education and employment.

Bowman said 1,400 individuals in Winnipeg are homeless.

A recent report indicated that outreach workers have helped connect 150 people to housing since 2013.
