The city is considering installing charging stations for cellphones at bus stops.

The idea was proposed by Matt Allard, the councillor for St. Boniface.

It was discussed by the city's innovation committee on Tuesday.

Jeff Browaty said it's not a common thing in Canadian cities, but thinks it's something Winnipeggers would like to see.

"It's hard to get through a full day in many cases with your cellphone so being able to get a little bit of juice to check when your next schedule is coming, you name it it's a good thing to have can we do it in some locations I think it's something worth looking at," said Jeff Browaty, the councillor for the North Kildonan ward.

Browaty would like to see the stations sponsored by private businesses to save tax payers from footing the bill.

City staff will now be studying what other cities are doing.
