A business is fighting with city hall to put up a giant United Way banner in Winnipeg.

The City of Winnipeg says the sign that Great-West Life wants to hang on its Osborne Street building is too big. It is 80-feet high, 55 feet higher than rules permit.

In a letter, Great-West Life said the banner will mark the 50th anniversary of the United Way in Winnipeg and would only be up until October.

An appeal hearing is set for Tuesday.

The same committee at city hall will also hear an appeal from Siloam Mission to put up a digital sign on its building to solicit donations.
