The City of Winnipeg held its first public information session for the Chief Peguis Trail Extension West Tuesday evening.

The extension will run west from Main Street to Brookside Boulevard.

The city is currently conducting a study project to find out what residents want to achieve from the extension. The study is looking into several areas, including alignments of the roadway corridor, intersection delays, sound reduction, pedestrian and cycling routes, green space and existing natural habitats.

"The Chief Peguis Trail West is part of the strategic road network that will help complete the inner ring road to help reduce traffic in our neighbourhoods and on residential streets," said Scott Suderman of the Public Works Department.

Some residents at Tuesday's info session at Red River Community Centre named free-flowing traffic as a priority.

The study project is scheduled to continue through to spring 2015.
