The City of Winnipeg suspended its mosquito fogging program because trap counts are so low that fogging is ineffective. The average city-wide adult mosquito trap count for Sunday is nine.

The city was unable to finish fogging in several areas of the city Saturday night because of cool temperatures.

When mosquito numbers fall, malathion spraying loses its effectiveness, because the mosquitos need to be flying in order to come in contact with the pesticide, the city said in a news release.

The city will keep monitoring traps on a daily basis and will resume fogging if trap counts rise to 100 in one or more quadrants of the city.
