Anyone not wanting to step out into the cold Winnipeg winter to buy groceries now has another option.

A business started by a 21-year-old entrepreneur allows anyone to order essential items online and have it delivered it to their door.

Jose Depaz had the idea for Instagroceries after working 12-hour days as a construction worker, along with a side business with a hotdog stand, and realizing he had no time to get groceries for himself.

The cold weather recently has been good for business, Depaz said.

“People like to stay home warm, watch some TV, or do anything else,” he said.

Depaz said he finds that most of his customers lack either the time or the ability to get out of the house to buy groceries.

“It’s elderly, it’s people that can’t leave their house, people with no time, pregnant ladies as well,” he said.

Alex O’Campo started using Instagroceries two months ago. She said the service lets her choose from 12 different items.

“I don’t need to get out in the cold and then go wait in line or go put my groceries up the stairs. I can just order online and wait for it at home,” she said.

Customers can choose from a list of produce, dairy, bakery, meat, along with diapers and pet food. The items come from either Superstore or Sobeys.
