CancerCare Manitoba Foundation is warning people living in the St.James, Maples and River Heights areas about a potential door-to-door fundraising fraudster.

“In the last week we have had several phone calls indicating that this activity is continuing,” said Jane Kidd-Hantscher, Director of Marketing and Communications.

Kidd-Hantscher said several individuals are knocking on doors and falsely asking for donations on behalf of CancerCare Mantioba.

She explained that the foundation does not fundraise door-to-door.

“If someone comes to your door and says they are with the foundation that is a red flag, and you should be warry of that,” warned Kidd-Hantscher. “Do not provide them with any funds and if you are suspicious contact the police or the foundation.”

One of the persons alleged to be involved is a white male in his late 30’s to early 40’s claiming to be a colon cancer survivor.

Kidd-Hantscher said the foundation has no known relationship with this individual and is concerned the activity is fraudulent.

“It is really concerning for us as an organization because we want people who are involved with the foundation to feel safe when they are asked to make a donation,” she added.

According to a release, CancerCare Manitoba Foundation is the only charitable organization exclusively raising funds for CancerCare Manitoba.
