A Winnipeg city councillor says green spaces in her ward are getting sub-par care.

South Winnipeg-St. Norbert Coun. Janice Lukes said park officials don't have any plans or a budget to take care of the new developments in her ward.

Lukes said areas like Bridgewater Forest, Bridgewater Trails and Bridgewater Lakes aren't being properly maintained.

"When I look at what's occurring out there and I see the level of maintenance these areas are receiving, it's not even the basics. There's a challenge going forward with park maintenance and our planning," she said.

Lukes said developers have put a high level of design in to the green spaces, which needs to be maintained.

“The city agrees to what the builders are building, the city accepts it back, and just as I buy a house and I have a mortgage, I plan ahead and I put my mortgage payments away, I’m assuming all of this was done prior to my arrival,” she said.

Lukes said she has meetings this week to discuss her concerns.
