A Winnipeg man is facing assault charges after a couple was robbed at knifepoint in downtown Winnipeg.

Police said the incident happened Aug. 25 at around 7:15 p.m. A 38-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman were outside a business in the 300 block of Portage Avenue when they were confronted by an unknown man.

The man initially asked the pair to buy stolen goods, but they declined. Police said the man pulled out a knife and demanded the pair’s property. During the altercation, both victims sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the man fled with the pair’s things, catching the attention of two witnesses. The man was pursued and the stolen property was recovered.

Patrol and canine members responded to the incident, and a suspected was found and arrested in the 100 block of Albert Street.

Lee Grant Boucher, 36, faces a slew of charges including robbery, aggravated assault, and assault with a weapon. He was remanded into custody.
