Police say two people are dead after their vehicle crashed head-on with a truck on Highway 44 near Garson on Tuesday.

RCMP and STARS Air Ambulance were notified at around 6:45 p.m., said police.

The 88-year-old driver of the car and his 85-year-old spouse from the RM of St. Clements died at the scene, said RCMP.

The 29-year-old driver of the truck, who is from Tyndall, was airlifted to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He is listed in serious but stable condition.

RCMP said it appears the couple's car was heading in the wrong lane, travelling westbound in the eastbound lane on Highway 44 when it collided with the truck.

Officers said alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash.
