A police pursuit ended in a crash that sent six people to hospital early Monday morning. Now, the unit that investigates serious incidents involving police has taken over the investigation.

Winnipeg police officers were pursuing a vehicle heading west on Redwood Avenue around 2:45 a.m. Less than a minute after the pursuit began, the suspect vehicle crashed into the side of a car at the intersection with McPhillips Street and Redwood.

The driver of the suspect vehicle fled on foot. Paramedics took two adults in the second vehicle and four youths in the suspect vehicle to hospital, all with non-life-threatening injuries.

Neither the IIU nor the Winnipeg Police Service has released any information about why the officers were pursuing the vehicle.

Police direct any inquiries about the incident to the IIU.
