Fire crews battled an apartment fire in the evening hours on Thursday.

Fire official said they were called to the 400 block of Kennedy Street around 8:10 p.m., after reports of smoke coming out of a third floor suite window.

When crews arrived, flames were coming out of the windows.

Crews extinguished the flames while residents took shelter in a transit bus.

Officials said there is water and smoke damage to the building.

Residents were allowed back into unaffected units in the building.

No injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire is unknown, and no damage estimate is available at this time.
