Crews have launched a search for a man last seen in Pembina Valley Provincial Park on Oct. 23.

Travis Sukkau, 19, is believed to have gone to the park during the day on Thursday to take photographs.

Relatives became concerned when he did return home that evening.

RCMP were called around 7:15 p.m. on Thursday to the park, south of Morden and Winkler.

"He's not the outdoors type, so this is a new experience for him. He's never been here before, so that's why we're quite concerned,” said Steven Sukkau, his brother.

Chris Hildebrandt lives in this area. He said the park is about 700 acres and, while the trails are safe, he says the brush can be dangerous for someone unfamiliar with the area.

"The woods here are very mountainous compared to the other prairies. They have some drop odds and some rock,” said Hildebrandt.

And while temperatures have been favourable, Steven Sukkau says his brother likely wasn't prepared for an extended stay.

"We don't know if he had water. We don't know if he had food. We don't know if he had a jacket or proper shoes. A lot of unknowns right now and that's what has us really worried,” he said.

Police said his vehicle was found in a wooded area in the park. RCMP said it had been spotted in the location before noon on Oct. 23.

"It is believed that another vehicle was parked in the same area during that time and left before police initiated the search. RCMP (are) asking anyone that would have been around the vehicle and would have noticed anything to communicate with police," said RCMP in a statement.

The Winkler police department, Manitou RCMP members, the RCMP search and rescue team, the Office of Fire Commissioner, the department of natural resources and STARS are aiding in the search.

Anyone with information on Sukkau's location is asked to contact their local police.
