On Nov. 12, 1960, CTV Winnipeg launched under the call sign CJAY-TV.  In 1961, CJAY formed an alliance with other television stations across Canada to become part owner of the newly created CTV Network, a national system offering a broader spectrum of programming and news opportunities for Canada.

The first privately owned television station in Winnipeg, CTV Winnipeg now provides service to more than 95 per cent of Manitoba and offers viewers the most-watched newscasts in the province and top-rated entertainment and sports programming, with an average audience of 140,000 watching the 6 p.m. news and the CTV programming line up, which includes nine of the top 10 rated shows in the market.

In Fall of 2001, CTV Inc. acquired CTV Winnipeg from Moffat Communications Limited, making us a full member of the CTV family and giving us ties to CTVglobemedia, Canada's premier multi-media company.  This purchase produced a benefits package of $3.3 million, which creates a script and concept development fund and develops television programming. This programming includes a commitment to produce 52 original half-hour segments per year of special reports, features and mini-documentaries on Winnipeg and Manitoba.

CTV Winnipeg has built a solid relationship of trust with Winnipeg and Manitoba viewers, thanks to CTV News Anchors Gord Leclerc and Maralee Caruso, CMOS approved CTV Weather Specialist Sylvia Kuzyk, and Sports Director Shawn Churchill.  Joining these well-known personalities is a host of talented reporters, dedicated to providing coverage you count on.

CTV Winnipeg is committed to our community, supporting many organizations.  These include The St. Boniface Hospital, the Winnipeg Humane Society, Siloam Mission, Multiple Sclerosis Society, the United Way, and many more.  We have created events like the United Way Koats for Kids program, which has donated more than 50,000 pieces of winter apparel to children in need in our community.  Dedication to the community and integrity in news and programming make CTV Winnipeg the number-one broadcaster in Manitoba.
