A Winnipeg man has admitted he kidnapped his two children and took them to Mexico.

Kevin Maryk entered two guilty pleas to abduction. The Crown dropped three other charges, including conspiracy to commit kidnapping.

Maryk unlawfully took his kids Abby and Dominic Maryk to Mexico in 2008.

Four years went by until a tip led Mexican police to an apartment where Maryk was holding the children. They were reunited with their mother.

Prosecutors are seeking a five-year sentence, while the defence said it will push for a jail term of less than two years.

Sentencing is set for Monday, June 30.

Another suspect, Robert Groen, pleaded guilty recently for his involvement and received a year in custody. A third man, Cody McKay, remains at large.
