Skiers won't be taking to the slopes at Agassiz Mountain this winter.

A private developer hoped to reopen the ski hill, but Parks Canada told them, “No.”

The ski hill closed in 2000 after running into financial trouble.

At the time, Riding Mountain National Park said a feasibility study had been done, claiming the ski hill could once again be a viable business.

The developer hoping to reopen the hill says that's not the case.

"It’s an area that many Manitobans have never experienced, and you know what? I think we all deserve that opportunity," said Kelly Rose.

Agassiz Mountain says Parks Canada rejected the proposal because the project is too large to handle and uses too much water.

Agassiz Mountain says the fight to bring the ski hill back is not over.
