An exhibit at Assiniboine Park Zoo slated for extinction after Labour Day weekend will live a little longer.

The zoo announced in a news release Tuesday it is holding over the popular Dinosaurs Alive! exhibit until Oct. 30.

The exhibit, which features 15 life-sized animatronic dinosaurs displayed along a forested path of the zoo, was originally scheduled to close Sept. 5.

“Dinosaurs Alive! has been so popular with our zoo visitors this summer season that it only made sense to extend it so the public can continue to enjoy it throughout the fall,” said Gary Lunsford, head of zoological operations at Assiniboine Park Zoo.

“We knew this exhibit would be popular with kids, but it’s been fantastic to see visitors of all ages really enjoying the experience.”

The exhibit drew large crowds during May long weekend, with the zoo recording its highest visitation numbers on record during a long weekend. More than 15,500 people visited the zoo between May 21 and May 23.

Dinosaurs Alive! is included with regular admission, and is presented in partnership with real estate firm Artis REIT. More information can be found here.
