A new lounge in downtown Winnipeg got a lot of buzz on social media this weekend when one popular tweet created an outcry to change part of the pub's decor.

Ambience often enhances Ben Wickstrom's dining experience, but part of the decor at a new lounge turned him off.

“I was offended,” said Wickstrom.

A poster decorating one wall of "The Pint" shows a nude woman bending over to get a beer from the fridge.

Wickstrom says it was “explicit” and “crossed the line.”

“When you see that on the wall, what does it say to women? It says you're a sex object, that's your purpose in our society, you're there to fetch beer for men,” said Wickstrom.

He tweeted about it Friday night saying...

Within hours, hundreds of comments poured in, some in support of the poster, the vast majority from others offended.

“It's a real cross-section of Winnipeggers. Men and women saying this is not the environment I’m looking for,” said Wickstrom.

Saturday night, The Pint responded on social media as well, apologizing to all those offended. And saying they would remove the poster.

The business has followed through, replacing it with hockey posters.

Owner Thomas Mcdonald said the poster in question was an old beer advertisement that doesn't represent the business.

“Our business plan is, if you're male or female, you can come here and really enjoy a pint,” says Mcdonald.

He says the decor is meant to showcase the history of sports and beer in a way everyone can enjoy.

“We're glad we got the feedback, so we could deal with it. As you can see, we have lots of photos of female hockey teams, women that were in the Olympics,” says McDonald.

Ben Wickstrom is glad the business reacted.

“I think it's a very symbolic thing to have happened. They took down the picture and it's a more welcoming place for everyone,” he said.

He hopes this sends a message to other businesses to consider the atmosphere they create.
