A mother called 911 Saturday after she accidentally locked her infant in a car on a hot summer afternoon.

Witness Dean Mason tells CTV News it happened at the Sobeys – Unicity parking lot around 3 p.m..

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, Winnipeg reached a high of 32.1 degrees Saturday.

A City of Winnipeg spokesperson said the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service got a call about the infant after the mother made her way from the driver’s door to the rear door, and the car inadvertently locked.

“With no other way to gain access the mother called 911 and crews ended up breaking the front driver’s window to gain access to the infant,” said the spokesperson.

The city said the infant was in the vehicle for 10 to 13 minutes, and the air conditioning had been on in the car prior to it stopping.

The infant was assessed by paramedics and had no signs of distress, the spokesperson said.
