Environment Canada has released its rating for the violent tornado that touched down in southern Manitoba on Monday night.

Environment Canada’s preliminary report rates the tornado as a high-end of EF-2.

The EF rating (Enhanced Fujita rating) is measured on a scale from EF-0 to EF-5.

The tornado touched down between Pierson and Tilston around 8:30 p.m. Monday and moved northeast to Virden around 11 p.m.

It tore up the highway north of Pierson and some local residents also reported property damage.

Environment Canada says they will be compiling a final report within the next two days.
