The city’s Executive Police Committee put the brakes on a vote to implement controversial growth fees.

The delay came after a dozen representatives from the development, home building and realtor community packed the meeting Wednesday.

They asked the committee to hit the pause button on the fees. They fear the change will slow the market and drive business outside the Perimeter Highway.

Ventura Homes went as far as calling this an assault on the industry.

The measure would see an $18,000 fee added to a new 1,800 square foot home.

Bowman said growth is not covering the cost of related roads, bridges and services.

Although EPC delayed the vote on the issue, a city report said the fees should be in place for January of 2017.
