Community support continues to pour in for a family who lost four sons.

Timmy, Danny, Henry and Bobby Froese ranged in age between 9 and 15. The brothers were the middle children in a family of eight kids and died in a house fire outside Kane, Man. on Feb. 25.

RM of Morris Reeve Ralph Groening said a Facebook page, Kane Fire Tragedy, with information has gone up.

Groening said the RM is focusing on three sources of support for the Froese family.

  • Access Credit Union Fund, under the "Kane Fire Victims" account name
  • Sommerfeld Mennonite Church - the family's church
  • Donate Love - an organization out of Winkler which helps with day to day needs like buying clothing and collecting food for the family

Ralph Groening also said the local food bank is also prepared to help the family.

The RM also has more information on its website.

Community member Don Groening helped organize a meeting at Sommerfeld Mennonite Church. In a matter of hours, 100 community members came together, organized a plan and divided up jobs to best serve the family's needs.

“Nothing like this has ever happened in our community before. A tragedy such as this is just bigger than all of us so we're trying to band together to help this family,” he said.

Community members are preparing a home for the family. The church that owns it, Emmanuel Gospel Church, hasn't had a pastor in it for months and now new furniture and rugs will be brought in for the Froese family.

Ralph Groening said the family's parents, Jake and Doralee, were still in hospital Thursday, recovering from smoke inhalation.

Dennis Matthies, manager of Access Credit Union, said support continues pouring in for the Froese family, both locally and nationally.

"Most people know everybody around them so it's definitely touched the lives of many," he said.

A lot of the emails I've got enquiring about donations - they're not just asking how to donate they're expressing feelings and concerns for the family and I think it really shows how big a tragedy this is."

Around 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 26, $23,000 had been raised at the credit union, with out-of-province contributions not yet mailed in.

A Go Fund Me page has also been set up to help the family, with more than $18,000 pledged by about 5 p.m. on Thursday.

The cause of the fatal fire remains under investigation.
