RCMP and Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health are investigating the death of a farmhand after an incident on Thursday.

On Sept. 11, Yellowhead RCMP responded to a report of an incident near the community of Sandy Lake, about 100 km south of Dauphin.

A 44-year-old man from Keeseekoowenin First Nation had been unloading grain from the box of a truck when he began sinking into the grain, said RCMP.

Attempts were made to pull the man from the grain, but were unsuccessful.

RCMP said the man was finally freed from the box of grain when the chute was opened.

Emergency crews rushed the man to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

On Sept. 14, the man died from his injuries in hospital.

RCMP said they will not be releasing the man’s name.
