A 20-year-old woman faces a number of charges following an incident at The Forks on Canada Day.

Around 11:30 p.m. on July 1, a man and woman known to each other were involved in an altercation.

A woman driving a Pontiac Sunfire collided with a young child. The child was not injured, said police.

The father of the child became upset and the woman then drove into him, trying to push him out of the way, said officers. The man was not injured.

Officers responded and repeatedly told the woman to pull her vehicle off to the side, but she refused.

Heavy pedestrian traffic in the area blocked her from driving any further and officers requested she turn off her vehicle for safety reasons.

The woman again refused and one of the officers then reached into the vehicle and shut off the car.

The woman bit and injured the officer while the vehicle was being turned off, said police.

A 17-year-old female passenger also got out of the vehicle and tried to prevent officers from performing their duties, said police.

The 20-year-old driver was arrested and faces charges for assaulting a peace officer, failing to remain at the scene of an accident and failing to remain stopped when signalled by a peace officer, said police.
