Savings from the Red River Floodway expansion will be diverted to other flood protection measures.

The province and Ottawa said the floodway project came in $38 million under budget.

That money will be used to make dikes permanent in seven Manitoba communities as well as flood mitigation in the City of Brandon.

Shelly Glover, Manitoba's senior federal cabinet minister, says details have yet to be worked out.

The floodway project came in at $627 million.
