Despite safety concerns raised by police and fire paramedic officials, a parade down McPhillips Street will go ahead.

A city committee voted three to one in favour of the Manitoba Filipino Street Festival's annual event.

City staff and emergency personnel opposed the parade, because an out of town ambulance, heading to Seven Oaks Hospital, got lost driving through residential streets while trying to avoid last year's parade.

Festival organizers are pleased with the decision and say they will consider moving the route in the future.

Committee Chair Janice Lukes was the lone vote against the appeal.

Organizers say the festival and parade is the largest Filipino event in Winnipeg.
