Winnipeg emergency crews discovered a grow operation after being called to a house fire in the city’s North End.
A 43-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman have been arrested and now face drug-related charges in connection to the grow operation.
Police say fire crews were called to a home in the 400 block of Boyd Avenue near Salter Street around 3 a.m. Tuesday.
Crews found no fire when they arrived on scene, but instead discovered a marijuana grow operation.
On Wednesday, Winnipeg Police revealed in a press release 165 marijuana plants were found inside the home with an estimated street value of $184,800.
Police also confiscated eight pounds of dry marijuana estimated to be worth $20,000 on the street.
Grow operation equipment valued at $7,320 was also seized from the home.
The occupants of the home were present when firefighters arrived on scene. Both have been released with a promise to appear in court.
Police continue to investigate.
