Winnipeg fire crews were called to a blaze in the St. Vital area and found a home had burned to the ground.

Firefighters were called to a home at St. Anne's Road near the Perimeter Highway Thursday morning.

It was clear when they arrived the home could not be saved, officials said.

The burning remains of the home also created a grass fire in the surrounding area.

"We had other crews attend for that situation, and we had a tanker attend to supply water since we're outside the water district," said platoon chief Alfred Sigfuson of the Winnipeg fire service.

Firefighters said both fires are now under control.

Officials said no one was injured in the blaze, and no one was home at the time of the fire. It appeared the home was abandoned, officials said.

The damage is estimated at $350,000.

Efforts are now underway to notify the homeowner and determine the cause of the blaze.
