Firefighters were called to two separate residential fires on Monday afternoon.

The first call came in at 12:53 p.m., after a home on Cordova Street in the River Heights area reported a fire in the basement.

Fire officials said there was heavy smoke coming from the area. Officials believe that the fire originated in the laundry room area of the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fire crews were then called to another blaze at a home in the 100 block of Gateway Road around 1:57 p.m.

Fire officials said the fire originated from a laptop computer on a kitchen stove. They estimate the damage was about $5,000.

No injuries were reported in either fire.
