Winnipeg police say a fire above a popular Sherbrook Street restaurant was caused by spray foam applications.

Shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday, emergency crews were called to a fire at 116 Sherbrook Street.

Police say the fire started in the attic above Stella’s Café and Bakery from "spontaneous combustion" caused by spray foam applications.

The United Fire Fighters of Winnipeg union said it set up an aerial ladder and had 10 units on scene.

The damages are estimated at approximately $700,000, police say.

The building was evacuated. No one was injured.
