Winnipeg firefighters worked to save an especially small resident from a house fire Saturday evening.

A fire broke out in a home in the 100 block of Alloway Avenue in Wolseley, forcing at least one woman from her house. Left inside was a small cat.

Fire crews went into the home to retrieve the animal and then provided it with oxygen from a mask.

After gently lifting the cat off of the ground in a yellow blanket, a firefighter handed the animal over to the woman waiting nearby.

The fire was extinguished, but fire officials have not yet released a damage estimate or commented on what may have caused the fire.
