A symbolic flag flies at city hall Friday night in recognition of five heroes chosen by the Winnipeg Blue Bomber alumni.

The five men and women who were selected helped raised the flag as the “Heroes” theme song played. Mayor Sam Katz and Bomber alumni members honoured the diverse group, which includes a teenager, a mother of seven, and Juno award-winning entertainer Fred Penner.

“Heroes come from all walks of life, but the all have somethin in common,” said Katz. “They share what they love to do, ask for little in return, and make the world a better place.”

The group will be honoured Saturday night at a gala dinner hosted by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers alumni at the Convention Centre.
