Police have charged two suspects with several offences after investigators say young girls were confined to rooms within their home and forced to perform sexual acts.

Parkland RCMP said they received a report of child abuse on Aug. 7.

Police said an investigation showed two girls under the age of 10 had been abused physically and sexually abused.

The girls and a younger female sibling were taken from the home immediately and placed into care of Child and Family Services.

Police said an investigation showed the children were frequently not fed and were locked in their rooms for much of the days.

The two older girls also were made to perform sexual acts, said RCMP.

Police said the custodial parents face a range of charges, including sexual assault, making child pornography, failing to provide necessities of life and forcible confinement.

The location where they are from and their names have not been released to protect the identities of the children, said police.

The RCMP’s Internet child exploitation unit is continuing to investigate.
